All Saints Church Choir
|
The contribution made to the worship of All Saints Church, Renhold, by our robed choir over many years is considerable. As well as supporting the 11am and 6pm Sunday Services and special services at Festivals, the choir sings when requested at Weddings and Funerals, and occasionally gives concerts both at Renhold and elsewhere. The choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) and we currently have two RSCM Award holders, one Silver (Bishop’s) and one Bronze (Dean’s). Choir Practice is held weekly on Fridays at 7pm.
Junior Choir All Saints’ Junior Choir was formed in Jan 2008 with the twin objectives of providing an additional opportunity to involve young people in the life of the church and of training young singers ultimately to complement the adult choir and thus to contribute to music in the church’s worship. Boys and girls of age 7 yrs or over who show an interest in or aptitude for music, however basic, are welcome to join. Basic vocal training is given following the RSCM Voice for Life scheme with badges and robes awarded on achieving various standards.
Rehearsals are held on Fridays from 6.00 to 6.45pm during term-time. In due course, older members of the Junior Choir may be invited to remain and join with the senior choir for the first 20 mins of their rehearsal (which starts at 7pm), thus gaining experience of singing with adults. Eventually it is hoped that some of the more experienced junior members will migrate to the senior choir. Junior Choir members are expected to attend the 11am service in church once a month (usually this is the 2nd Sunday in the month but this can change at certain times of the year) and on other special occasions. However, they are always welcome to come and sing at any of our sung services. Occasionally they will sing a piece on their own; otherwise they join in with the rest of the choir.
Director of Music
The Director of Music and organist is Michael Brooks, who joined us in Dec 2004. He is frequently assisted in accompanying choir practice by John Hartup from Kempston, to whom we are very grateful for his
